MiHIN Puts the Care Back into Healthcare with Salesforce

Improving healthcare and reducing costs is on everyone’s minds these days. But how? Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN) is building connections between every healthcare provider in the state to help doctors better understand patient needs. The agency uses Salesforce to make it easier for the state’s healthcare professionals to get the information they need when they need it to eliminate inefficiencies and improve care. “Almost 90 percent of the $7.2 billion in medications dispensed in Michigan each year have unintended consequences — ranging adverse side effects, to symptoms that require re-admission, to nothing at all,” explains Tim Pletcher, Executive Director. “Not only is it inefficient when prescriptions don’t work as intended, but it’s inconvenient and unsafe for patients. Care coordination — the kind facilitated by our...

ONC, CMS to Take Part in Provider Data Accuracy Alliance

ONC, CMS and others will spend the summer of 2017 developing a roadmap to improve provider data accuracy.  Featured June 15, 2017 | EHRintelligence.com| EHR Intelligence  A multi-stakeholder alliance convened by CAQH will meet to discuss and develop a roadmap for improving provider data accuracy throughout the summer of 2017. Accurate provider information improves the efficiency of various fundamental processes in healthcare ranging from paying claims to procuring provider directories. The Provider Data Action Alliance comprises representatives from provider organizations, health information exchanges (HIEs), federal agencies, and health systems. The group has attracted the likes of ONC, CMS, and Surescripts in particular. According to CAQH, investments in provider data aggregation and management in the healthcare industry total over $2 billion a year. However, inaccurate information is still common. A CMS report released in 2017 determined...

Biggest obstacles to patient-centered care? Coordination and quality measurement

Michigan Health Information Network executive director Tim Pletcher says that effectively linking patients to providers starts with a dynamic health directory.  Featured January 16, 2017 | healthcareitnews.com| John Andrews, Healthcare IT News A new model of healthcare means provider organizations need to mobilize and marshal their resources to develop a coordinated, more efficient process of care, according to Tim Pletcher, executive director of the Michigan Health Information Network. Effective patient-centered care requires a clear understanding of which doctors, organizations and other care providers are actively involved in a person’s care, he added, and new approaches to care such as precision medicine further heighten the need for an effective process to link, or attribute, patients to providers, Pletcher said. “The biggest challenge right now is that care coordination, performance measurement and quality measurement are...

A newly aggressive Salesforce invades the health IT battlefield

Featured October 28, 2014 | modernhealthcare.com | Joseph Conn Salesforce.com, the cloud-based customer resource management services provider, has been generating buzz lately because of a reported big push into healthcare. Two unnamed company sources recently told Reuters that Salesforce hopes to bring in $1 billion in annual healthcare industry sales in the coming years. This also comes at no surprise to the Salesforce users. In recent years, the connectivity of the software has excelled. We now have Salesforce ActiveCampaign connection to various external solutions, like PieSync as an example. That would mean a 25% bump to its top line, based on last year's numbers. What's not so well-known is that Salesforce already is in healthcare. That makes this latest move more an expansion than a new initiative, as the...

MiHIN expands reach of its health information exchange

Featured October 2, 2013 | ehrintelligence.com | Kyle Murphy, PhD, EHR Intelligence While October 1 brought with it plenty of negative news surrounding the government shutdown, it proved to be a productive day for the Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN). The statewide health information exchange in the state made the most recent of two announcements yesterday, that expand its reach both within Michigan and beyond its borders. First, MiHIN reached an agreement with the Southeast Michigan Beacon Community (SEMBC), one of 17 communities chosen by the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) as model for healthcare reform and patient-centered care through the adoption of EHR and health IT systems. Per the agreement, participants in SEMBC’s...

Better Health Care Through APIs

Featured March 3, 2013 | cioinsight.com | Tony Kontzer, CIO Insight Critical data-integration technology is helping health care providers in Michigan get patient information to doctors when and where they need it. One of the major obstacles to the effective electronic exchange of patient data is that most doctors are moving targets. They are affiliated with numerous organizations and practice in a lot of different settings. In other words, good luck getting a message to them in the right place at the right time. "You can't just deliver information to them in one spot," says Tim Pletcher, executive director of the Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN). "You have to understand the medical context and deliver to them where needed." It was with that conundrum in mind that the state of Michigan joined forces...
