LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN), Michigan’s state-designated health information exchange (HIE), today announced it has once again achieved full DirectTrust™ Health Information Service Provider (HISP) accreditation. DirectTrust’s accreditation and certification programs are governed by the organization’s Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC).
Through DirectTrust’s comprehensive third-party review, MiHIN was evaluated in areas of HIPAA privacy and security, technical and operational capabilities, and policy adherence. MiHIN’s HISP services software was audited against a series of technical, physical, and operational criteria and found to be fully compliant with the Direct Standard® and the requirements of the DirectTrust Security and Trust framework.

MiHIN is Michigan’s state-designated health information exchange, responsible for facilitating the secure exchange of critical and comprehensive healthcare information across the state. Its cloud-based infrastructure connects a network of over 880 healthcare providers, including hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, payers and others in the healthcare ecosystem. This allows authorized users to access comprehensive patient data for over 13 million patients, improving care coordination and efficiency.

DirectTrust accredited organizations are evaluated in the areas of privacy, security, and confidentiality; technical performance; business practices and organizational resources, and stakeholder-specific criteria. Additionally, their process of managing and transferring protected health information (as applicable) must meet or exceed all DirectTrust criteria and industry standards. Successful completion of the DirectTrust Accreditation Program demonstrates organizations’ adherence to strict standards and participation in the comprehensive, objective evaluation of their business.
