LANSING, Mich., Nov. 26, 2018 – Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) will be presenting at the 2018 Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) Annual Meeting taking place in Washington, D.C. November 29 – 30, 2018 and the Playing with FHIR® Developer Workshop leading up to the Annual Meeting on November 27 – 28, 2018.
ONC Annual Meeting
Tim Pletcher, MiHIN executive director, will be participating as a panelist during a breakout session “State Data Sharing (HIE) Interoperability Design and Implementation Perspectives” alongside representatives from the Connecticut Health Information Exchange and MyHealth Access Network, the state of Oklahoma’s health information exchange. During the panel, Tim will highlight Michigan’s continued efforts to encourage data-sharing as well as interoperability models that support alignment of patient-centered clinical quality measures, healthcare payment, and freeing the flow of health data to where and when it is needed most.
“In an industry where interoperability is the key function to share patient information across multiple platforms, the focus must be patient-centered at all levels of functionality,” says Pletcher. “The patient must be the center of our focus in everything from clinical quality measures to healthcare payment systems to have an effective, results-oriented standard.”
Playing with FHIR Workshop
As part of the ONC Annual Meeting, Playing with FHIR – an ONC Developer Workshop, will be held on November 27 and 28, 2018. This workshop offers a hands-on opportunity for developers to play with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) from an introductory level to a more experienced developer.
“During the FHIR Pilot Interoperability Testbed (FHIR-PIT) session, MiHIN will walk through a new, shared online environment we’re calling Interoperability Land™,” says Wendy Couturier, MiHIN group product marketing and sales manager. “This online environment, hosted in the Amazon Web Services Cloud, enables organizations, developers, and technology providers an interactive platform to engage in simulated, but highly realistic interoperability scenarios to develop, test, or demonstrate new application capabilities and advance interoperability. During the session, we’ll introduce the concept, provide details on the scope of the project and proposed usability and gather feedback from attendees via survey on functionality, accessibility, FHIR-PIT populations and more.”
